The formal release of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who has completed a 10-year sentence in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in the JBT (Junior Basic Training) recruitment scam, will take some time. It is being told that Om Prakash Chautala’s lawyers are busy completing the legal formalities required for his release. In view of the special exemption of six months from the Delhi government, the ten-year sentence of the former CM has been completed. Om Prakash Chautala is currently out of jail on parole. He had suffered a fracture in his hand in a road accident recently. Due to this, he is being treated at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. The former CM will have to visit Tihar Jail once to complete the formalities of release. Lawyers are telling that this process will take only an hour, but for this also a health certificate will have to be obtained from the doctor treating them. It is believed that Om Prakash Chautala will reach Tihar on Friday and complete the formalities, or he will reach Tihar only on Monday after Saturday-Sunday.
Om Prakash Chautala’s lawyer had informed last week that till now the sentence of the former Chief Minister has been completed including all government exemptions from the conviction. It is worth mentioning that in 2013, former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala was sentenced to 10 years in the JBT recruitment scam.
Om Prakash Chautala had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking his release from jail on the basis of his age and disability. In the petition filed earlier, Chautala had referred to the notification dated July 18, 2018, of the central government. According to the notification, if men who have crossed 60 years of age, 70 percent disabled and children have served half their sentence, then the state government can consider his release.
