The BJP’s opposition in the state and mainly former Chief Minister and National General Secretary of Congress Harish Rawat is behind the handing over of the command to the young MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami in the BJP government of the state and now the place in the Union Cabinet to MP Ajay Bhatt. (Kumaon division) itself is being seen as a strategy of encirclement. Both Chief Minister Dhami and Union Minister of State Bhatt belong to Kumaon. Being a resident of the mountainous region, he represents the Terai. On the other hand, speculation continues regarding the resignation of Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank from the Union Cabinet. It is believed that in view of the assembly elections to be held next year, BJP can entrust him with an important responsibility.
Discussions about getting representation in the expansion of the Union Cabinet were going on for several days in the states where assembly elections are due early next year. This approach raised hopes that Uttarakhand may get more representation at the Centre. This discussion intensified after the developments of leadership change in the BJP government of the state. Uttarakhand got a place in the expansion of the Union Cabinet, but with a change of face. Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has resigned from the post of Union Education Minister due to health-related reasons. Along with this, Ajay Bhatt, MP from Nainital, was given a place in the Union Cabinet. That is, a ministerial post was retained from the state, but he could not get an additional ministerial post. It is a different matter that earlier there was the post of a cabinet minister in the center from the state, whereas now the minister of state.
However, through the change of leadership in the state and then the change in the post of minister at the center, the BJP will surround the opposition in Uttarakhand. Former Chief Minister and National General Secretary of Congress Harish Rawat is the biggest face in the opposition in the state and he is also continuously active. Amidst this scenario, Chief Minister Dhami is originally a resident of Pithoragarh district, while his assembly seat is Khatima (Udhamsinghnagar). Ajay Bhatt, who was made Minister of State at the Center, represents the Nainital parliamentary seat. He belongs to the Almora district. It is believed that due to the Chief Minister and the Union Minister being from Kumaon, they will be able to lay siege to former Chief Minister Harish Rawat in the Kumaon region itself.
