The ownership of this ground has been given by the Center to the Government of Uttarakhand. The players and sports lovers of Doon are expected to get a lot of benefits from this. It will now be easier than ever to organize a sports event on this ground located in the heart of the city. However, doubts have also arisen regarding its maintenance in the operation of the state government.
Considered to be the home of North India’s prestigious Gold Cup cricket tournament, Rangers Ground has a storied history. On this ground, legends like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag had introduced their skills in their early days. This is the only ground available in the city for major cricket events. The Gold Cup is being organized at this ground for more than 35 years. Although many local level tournaments have also been held here, it has been very difficult to get permission to organize in the field. For providing the grounds from many months ago, one had to make rounds of the regional office of FRI. Now after getting its acquisition by the state government, it is hoped that permission will be given to organizing sports here easily.
